About Me
Sam May, Counsellor
In the 1980’s during my hairdressing career it became apparent that having counselling skills would help me in my being with people.
However, the path to obtaining such credential took many twists and turns and occurred in the following ways:
- In the 1990’s I ran a youth drop in centre and worked along side of families with children returning from foster care.
- During the 2000’s I worked in schools and childcare centres to support children and young people
- I also completed a Certificate IV in Trainer Assessor
- I then completed a degree in Social Science (Community Work).
- Before proceeding to complete my Masters in Education in 2008
- Vibrational energies were introduced to me in Australian Bush Flower Essences during the 1990’s. After many years of practice and ongoing learning ABFE encouraged my facilitating several courses in ABFE.
- Throughout the 2010’s I worked within the child protection system with children removed from their families,
- I also obtained a degree in Counselling
- Followed by my Graduate Certificate in Developmental Trauma.
- Since the start of the 2020’s, I have solidified my skills with a certificate in Family Group Conferencing and Mediation
- Healing through the feet over many years encouraged me to pursue formal study in Reflexology in 2021.
- I am currently training in Somatic Self Psychology, a body-focused form of psychotherapy
- Lifelong learning is core to my beliefs.
Values
- Listening to others and being heard by another is important.
- Being true to myself is the best living to make.
- We are all creative in someway and this assists our emotional wellbeing.
- Conflict can facilitate growth in learning of ourself.
- Confidentiality is assured unless there is a safety risk that will be discussed.
- Respect for social justice while acknowledging differences.
- Connections with our natural environment assists our connection with ourself.
